- Description
Kondō Nobuto was a Japanese-style painter, active in the Shōwa period. Born in Yamanashi Prefecture, he specialized in landscape painting on silk.
This work is a snow landscape painted on silk by Kondō Nobuto. Its composition is seemingly influenced by the Nanga painting style. It’s interesting that Kondō Nobuto added an arrangement to such a traditional way in order to enhance sophistication. The snow falling on the trees is expressed by the color of the base material, silk itself, showing a high level of technical skill. This features the poetic depiction of a tranquil snowscape landscape.
