- Description
While tigers have a fierce image, it is believed that they treasure their young. Therefore, the Japanese people sometimes use the word for “a tiger cub” to describe a treasure. Gyokuhou Horie spent many years studying tigers, so he must have known about this characteristic of tigers.
This is a painting of a tiger family by Gyokuhou Horie. The depiction of the parent tiger, who is guarding two cubs behind the rocks and keeping a strict watch on its surroundings, is very impressive. One cub keeps a strict watch like his parent, while the other cub appears more dependent on the parent. The work gains depth through the depiction of the cubs. This is a heartwarming work, which makes us feel parental affection.
