- Description
Ryoukan, a famous Zen monk in the Edo period, is remembered for loving children and playing with them willingly; Ryoukan thought a child’s pure heart was like the Buddha’s heart.
This is a painting by Katsunobu Kawahito of Ryoukan gathering flowers with children. The depiction of Ryoukan enjoying time with the children is very heartwarming. The depiction of the dog and the birds makes the work more cheerful. Katsunobu Kawahito had an affinity with Ryoukan because he loves children as well. This is why he created this work.
