- Description
Arima Raitei is a Zen monk in the present day. He is the chief abbot of the Shōkoku-ji Temple School of the Rinzai sect. He serves concurrently as chief priest of the Shōkoku-ji Temple, the Kinkaku-ji Temple (Rokuon-ji Temple), and the Ginkaku-ji Temple (Jishō-ji Temple). The Shōkoku-ji temple located in Kamigyō Ward, Kyoto City, is the main temple of the Shōkoku-ji school of the Rinzai Zen sect of Buddhism. The Kinkaku-ji Temple is a Rinzai sect Shōkoku-ji School temple located in Kita Ward, Kyoto City. The Ginkaku-ji Temple is also a Rinzai sect Shōkoku-ji School temple located in Sakyō Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. The Ginkaku-ji Temple is the representative temple of “Higashiyama” culture, which is the culture of the middle Muromachi period of Japan. The Kinkaku-ji Temple and the Ginkaku-ji Temple are external sub-temples of the Shōkoku-ji Temple.
Arima Raitei is also known as a master of calligraphy. He writes the fine-lined characters in this work. These characters mean that a long cruel winter at last came to an end, giving place to a gentle warm spring. His thin, light style of handwriting is very beautiful.
