- Description
Kaneko Takayuki was a Japanese-style painter who studied under Fukuōji Hōrin and was active mainly in the Inten Exhibitions (exhibitions by the Nihon Bijutsu-in Japan Art Academy). He was a member of Nihon Bijutsuin and good at tasteful landscape paintings by sumi ink. This work depicts the scenery of Nishinokyō area in the ancient capital Nara. A temple quietly stands in the deep mountain at dusk in the fog. A fisherman rows a boat as if gazing at the temple. The human activity in nature which has not changed since ancient time is also the same in the ancient city of Nara. This is the masterpiece that he tastefully expresses one of such scenes with his skillful technique.
