- Description
The golden rayed lily is native to Japan. It looks gorgeous, so it is called ”The King of Lilies.” Keiji Yamazaki painted golden rayed lilies realistically in this work. The depiction of the curled petals is great. The background is colored lemon yellow with the “suminagashi” (paper marbling) technique. This color provides the golden rayed lilies the aura which is befitting for the King. A lily is often compared to beautiful woman thanks to its neat and clean image. In this painting, it seems as if the butterfly is attracted to the beautiful appearance of the lilies. This expression is very interesting.
sumi-nagashi (paper marbling)
A technique to disperse floating ink by dropping resin on the water surface and printing it on a paper. A similar effect may be accomplished with water colors.
