- Description
A figure is crossing a bridge under the quiet autumn sun setting, perhaps heading home. This painting, which depicts an autumnal scene with suiboku (watered sumi ink) and faint orange, looks light in part, but full of color actually. At first glance, the painting may appear to be rude, but the rhythmic brushwork and richness of the ink color are admirable in the midst of its unrestrained nature. Even though a brush should have run as it was meant to be, the whole painting is harmoniously summarized in full of weight. This work offers a glimpse of the delicate and elegant world depicted by Hirai Baisen.
