- Description
Hirai Baisen (平井楳仙, 1889-1969), a Japanese-style painter, was active in Kyoto from the Meiji period to the Shōwa period. Studied painting techniques under Takeuchi Seihō. An early exhibitor and frequent prize winner at the Bunten exhibition. Produced a large number of delicately colored landscape paintings.
In this painting, a figure returning home was depicted. The moon depicted on the upper part is worthy of special mention. The simply depicted moon changes this work into a night scene. This is an interesting part that captures our imagination.
