- Description
Hirai Baisen (平井楳仙, 1889-1969), a Japanese-style painter, was active in Kyoto from the Meiji period to the Shōwa period. Studied painting techniques under Takeuchi Seihō. An early exhibitor and frequent prize winner at the Bunten exhibition, he produced a large number of delicately colored landscape paintings.
In this painting, 2 people talking on the rock are depicted small and accentuate the magnificent natural landscape. This is very interesting expression. The way Hirai Baisen drew the trees, the rocks, and the mountain also shows traces of Nanga painting influence.
