- Description
In this painting, a pine tree has the shape of the kanji for “kotobuki,” which literally means “congratulations.” The depiction of this pine tree is unique and very interesting. The artist, Susumu Kawahara’s idea is very cool.
“Shou-chiku-bai” (a combination of pine, bamboo and plum trees) and the sunrise are considered lucky symbols, so they are painted in this work. The crane is considered a symbol of longevity in Japan, so a pair of cranes are painted. Gold paint is effectively used on the screen, creating a bright atmosphere. This is a suitable painting for a celebrations.
