- Description
“Kyokuha” features on the rising sun in bright red over the swirling waves. This subject has acquired quite popularity for celebratory occasions because of its vigor like the morning sun going up to the heavens. Many painters, for a long time, have taken kyokuha as a subject of Japanese-style painting to create their hanging scroll paintings, specifically meant to display during New Years. This work is a picture of kyokuha painted by Hirai Baisen, who was active from the Meiji period through the Shōwa era. The great kyokuha shines brightly like a large flower in a sky covered moderately by clouds. It communicates a warm light of hope with the audience’s heart. This is an excellent work as if to convey the depth of the painter’s thought, perfect for being displayed on auspicious occasions.
