- Description
Kawai Gyokudō, Kodama Kibō, and Okuda Gensō were the leading painters of the early-modern and modern Japanese-style painting world. Their spirits and painting styles were handed down to Katō Tomo. Katō Tomo was the last pupil who lived in Kodama Kibō’s home. After his teacher’s death, Katō Tomo studied under Okuda Gensō, who was Kodama Kibō’s senior pupil. Katō Tomo developed an excellent sense of color from Okuda Gensō and studied traditional Japanese-style painting by himself. Afterwards, he was finally able to establish his own painting style. Recently, he served as a judge at the Nitten Exhibition, and his area of activity is expanding.
In this type of work, excellent brushwork and the elegant colors make a strong impression. His painting Red Mt. Fuji is full of its own charm and appeal.
