- Description
These are the big gourds painted by Katsunobu Kawahito with the dynamic brush strokes. It seems as if these brush strokes represent his boldness. A gourd’s shape widens toward the tip. The shape is thought to imply a prosperous future, so a gourd has been considered a good omen since ancient times.
These big gourds in this painting especially look like a good omen. The leaves are painted with “tarashikomi” technique, so we can feel a fresh atmosphere from this depiction. The gold leaf put on the screen expressed the summer sunlight, and this idea is unique and bold. Katsunobu Kawahito expresses a summer scene with his original painting style, so this work is very tasteful.
