Bulk Order of Shikishi-gake Scrolls and Tanzaku-gake Scrolls from a German Business Client

We receive inquiries regarding kakejiku production from both domestic and international clients. Among them, we occasionally receive large-volume orders from overseas business clients.

These requests are not for personal use, but for products to be sold as part of their business.

In this article, we would like to introduce a case in which a business client from Germany visited our shop in person.

A Couple: A Bonsai Artist and a Nihonga Painter

The clients who visited us this time are a couple running a business in Germany.

The husband is an active bonsai artist, and the wife is a Nihonga (Japanese-style painting) artist.

Together, they handle and sell various items related to Japanese art and culture.

What they mainly request from us is the production of original Shikishi-gake Scrolls and Tanzaku-gake Scrolls.

They attach the artworks painted by the wife on shikishi boards and tanzaku strips to these scrolls and display them behind bonsai as part of their presentation, offering them as products.

This Order

The reason for their visit was that they wished to proceed with the order while actually viewing and selecting the fabrics in person.

We presented several fabric options and carefully discussed the combinations together.

Below is the list of fabrics that were selected during the meeting.

We also prepared a comprehensive production list for all requested items.

As this was a large order and each piece had slightly different dimensions and specifications, we organized everything into a detailed list so that both parties could double-check all details accurately.

After confirming all specifications, we proceeded to production.

The requested delivery timing was aligned with an upcoming bonsai event, so this was a large-scale order with a relatively tight schedule.

Even under these conditions, we carefully checked each item one by one throughout the production process to ensure there were no mistakes.

Completion of the Shikishi-gake Scrolls and Tanzaku-gake Scrolls

We successfully completed the large number of Shikishi-gake Scrolls and Tanzaku-gake Scrolls in time for the deadline.

Here are the finished works.

Customer Feedback

After shipment, we received confirmation that the items had safely arrived.

The client was very satisfied with the results and was already busy sorting the products in preparation for their event.

We also received the following feedback:

Kake – production and delivery
It was very very nice to get to know you in personally! You make excellent work! It‘s fun working with you! Hope to see you again in Japan – we love Japan very much!

All of our staff were delighted to receive such positive feedback.

Furthermore, the client expressed their desire to continue placing orders with us and to build a long-term business partnership, which we consider a great honor.

    Our Feelings For Kakejiku

The Japanese people have long set a high value on aesthetic senses since ancient times. As a result, the
peculiar culture which is not seen in other countries blossomed and many aspects of the modern Japanese
culture come from it. Parts of Japanese culture has been introduced to people in other countries recently,
so the number of people from other countries who are interested in Japanese culture has been increasing.
However, the Japanese aesthetic senses, which are the bases of Japanese culture, have been nurtured
through a long history, intertwining various elements intricately, such as climate, geographical features,
religion, customs and so on. Therefore, they are very difficult to understand not only for people from other
countries, but even for the Japanese people. I think the best tool which conveys these difficult senses
    understandably is a “kakejiku.”
The kakejiku (a hanging scroll; a work of calligraphy or a painting which is mounted and hung in an
alcove or on a wall) is a traditional Japanese art. It's no exaggeration to say that paintings are what
express aesthetic senses at all times and places. The kakejiku is an art which expresses the Japanese
aesthetic senses. The kakejiku has long been used in traditional Japanese events, daily life and so on since
ancient times. As a result, there are various customs of kakejiku in Japan; kakejiku and the life of the
Japanese are closely related. We can see Japanese values through kakejiku.
The kakejiku is a cultural tradition which the Japanese people should be proud of. However, many people
in other countries don't know much about it because it hasn't been showcased as much. This is why I
decided to try to introduce it. The kakejiku world is very interesting and beautiful. We want not only the
Japanese, but also many people from other countries to know and enjoy it. I hope that many people will
    love kakejiku someday.
