Custom Tanzaku-gake for Bonsai Display: A Referral from Poland

A Referral Is the Best Compliment

One of the happiest moments in our work is when a customer who has appreciated our service introduces us to a new customer.

We feel that being “a shop people want to recommend to others” is one of the greatest compliments we can receive. In this article, we would like to share a production case referred to us by an overseas customer.

Referred by a Customer in Poland

This time, we received a referral from a customer in Poland who had previously ordered Tanzaku-gake scrolls from us, and we were contacted by another customer in the same country to place a new order. They seem to be friends connected through the bonsai community.

Order Details

The order details are as follows. In addition to a four-season set of Tanzaku-gake, we were also asked to produce blue-themed Tanzaku-gake, as well as tanzaku sheets with anti-bleed treatment.

  • ・Tanzaku-gake (80 cm, 2 colors), Four-season set: 4 pieces
  • ・Tanzaku-gake (80 cm, 2 colors), Spring & Winter: 2 pieces
  • ・Tanzaku-gake (120 cm, 3 colors), blue theme: 1 piece
  • ・Tanzaku-gake (80 cm, 3 colors), blue theme: 1 piece
  • ・Cream-colored tanzaku sheets with anti-bleed treatment (wide width 7.5 × 36 cm): 50 sheets

Meeting Document

This is the document summarizing the details discussed with the customer. We proceed to production only after both sides have confirmed the specifications.

Production Completed

We produced the Tanzaku-gake according to each confirmed order specification, and when we sent the completion photo before shipping, we received a very happy message saying they “can’t wait for the package.”

We would be truly delighted if they enjoy them after arrival as well.

We Also Accept Custom Tanzaku-gake Orders

Just like this case, we also accept made-to-order Tanzaku-gake tailored to your intended use and seasonal atmosphere.

We can propose suitable options after hearing your preferences, such as size, color direction, and seasonal combinations. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us.

Our Feelings For Kakejiku

The Japanese people have long set a high value on aesthetic senses since ancient times. As a result, the
peculiar culture which is not seen in other countries blossomed and many aspects of the modern Japanese
culture come from it. Parts of Japanese culture has been introduced to people in other countries recently,
so the number of people from other countries who are interested in Japanese culture has been increasing.
However, the Japanese aesthetic senses, which are the bases of Japanese culture, have been nurtured
through a long history, intertwining various elements intricately, such as climate, geographical features,
religion, customs and so on. Therefore, they are very difficult to understand not only for people from other
countries, but even for the Japanese people. I think the best tool which conveys these difficult senses
understandably is a “kakejiku.”
The kakejiku (a hanging scroll; a work of calligraphy or a painting which is mounted and hung in an
alcove or on a wall) is a traditional Japanese art. It's no exaggeration to say that paintings are what
express aesthetic senses at all times and places. The kakejiku is an art which expresses the Japanese
aesthetic senses. The kakejiku has long been used in traditional Japanese events, daily life and so on since
ancient times. As a result, there are various customs of kakejiku in Japan; kakejiku and the life of the
Japanese are closely related. We can see Japanese values through kakejiku.
The kakejiku is a cultural tradition which the Japanese people should be proud of. However, many people
in other countries don't know much about it because it hasn't been showcased as much. This is why I
decided to try to introduce it. The kakejiku world is very interesting and beautiful. We want not only the
Japanese, but also many people from other countries to know and enjoy it. I hope that many people will
love kakejiku someday.
