From Minnesota to Japan — A Memorable Encounter with a Cherry Blossom Scroll

Many young people from overseas who have an interest in Japanese art visit our shop.
This time, we would like to introduce Ms. Samantha, a 25-year-old visitor from Minnesota, USA, who traveled alone to Japan.

Contents
Interest in Japanese Art
Samantha studied Asian art at university and is considering pursuing graduate studies in the future. She enjoys painting nanga (Southern-style ink paintings) and has a deep appreciation for Japanese art.
She is also interested in traditional Japanese craftsmanship such as mounting, restoration, woodworking, and wooden architecture.
Collecting Local Art as Travel Memories
Samantha’s family often purchases local artworks as souvenirs during their travels abroad.
During this solo trip, she visited our shop to find a hanging scroll (kakejiku) as a gift for her mother.
Her mother also enjoys painting with acrylic and watercolor, and art has always been a familiar presence in their family.
Samantha herself prefers artworks that are lightly painted and simple in composition.
Since this scroll was to be a gift, she communicated with her family back home while selecting the piece carefully.
The Chosen Scroll — Cherry Blossoms at Night
最After much consideration, she selected a cherry blossom scroll painted with soft brushwork.

The artwork depicts cherry blossoms illuminated under the night sky, creating an elegant and feminine impression — a style that she found especially appealing.
Review from Samantha
We were honored to receive the following kind words from Samantha after her visit:
I had such a great time choosing a hanging scroll for my parents! The staff were very helpful and humored me, noting both my price range and my taste, as well as my parent’s taste while I took my time choosing! They were very patient and informative. I would 100% come again next time I’m in Japan for another selection!
She mentioned that she would love to visit again with her family next time, which made us truly happy.
