A Kakejiku Shop Committed to Attentive Customer Service

Why We Value Special Connections

Kakejiku (hanging scrolls) are not everyday items but rather special products that fall into the category of high-value purchases. Since customers don’t purchase them daily, we don’t have customer service opportunities every day either. That’s precisely why we feel a special connection with every customer who visits our shop, and all our staff are committed to providing attentive customer service to cherish these encounters.

We never impose our own preferences on customers. Instead, we carefully listen to their wishes and strive to make proposals that meet their expectations as much as possible. When customers are satisfied with our products and services, it becomes our greatest source of motivation and fulfillment.

The episode we’re sharing today is about a foreign customer who appreciated our approach to customer service.

Serious Shopping

Recently, we welcomed Kristoffer Holm-san, a Danish man living in Korea, and his wife Matilda-san to our shop.

The couple was scheduled to return to Denmark in October and was looking for some memorable Asian art. However, they couldn’t find anything they liked in Korea where they lived. While searching the internet, they discovered our shop and made visiting us one of the purposes of their trip to Japan.

Incredibly, they stayed overnight in Kobe just to visit our shop… That’s serious dedication! We were delighted both that someone was so earnestly searching for kakejiku and that our shop was chosen as one of their candidates.

The couple preferred thorough customer service and had particular preferences about the atmosphere of the paintings, the colors of the mounting, and various detailed options.

Accommodating Customer Preferences

For religious reasons, Kristoffer-san couldn’t accept themes that evoked Buddhism or dragons and tigers. He preferred landscape kakejiku with elegant, calm, simple, and understated artistic styles.

We carefully listened to these detailed requests and showed them many kakejiku before they selected this colored landscape scroll.

We accommodated the customers’ pace and provided unhurried, thorough service. During our interaction, Kristoffer-san was moved by how Japanese culture like kakejiku is carefully preserved and by the meticulous attention and thoughtfulness that are characteristic of Japanese people. Receiving such reactions is a great source of encouragement for us.

Customer Review

Kristoffer-san left us the following review:

Amazing traditional Japanese art

My wife and I went to this shop to buy some traditional Japanese art.
The owner was very patient and kind with us, and showed us a lot of art pieces untill we found the perfect one we liked.
It was a really good experience and we are so happy about the art piece we can bring home from Japan!!
I really recommend visiting this store if you have a chance!

With the Spirit of Ichigo Ichie (One Time, One Meeting)

While attentive customer service might seem natural for Japanese people, we are particularly committed to providing meticulous service. Since we handle the special product of kakejiku, we value each once-in-a-lifetime encounter with our customers and aim to provide a unique experience for each individual.

Being able to help customers find artworks that satisfy them is our greatest joy. We will continue to listen to each customer’s individual needs and maintain our commitment to attentive customer service.

If you have any interest in kakejiku or traditional Japanese art, please feel free to visit us. We look forward to meeting each and every one of you with all our hearts.

Our Feelings For Kakejiku

The Japanese people have long set a high value on aesthetic senses since ancient times. As a result, the
peculiar culture which is not seen in other countries blossomed and many aspects of the modern Japanese
culture come from it. Parts of Japanese culture has been introduced to people in other countries recently,
so the number of people from other countries who are interested in Japanese culture has been increasing.
However, the Japanese aesthetic senses, which are the bases of Japanese culture, have been nurtured
through a long history, intertwining various elements intricately, such as climate, geographical features,
religion, customs and so on. Therefore, they are very difficult to understand not only for people from other
countries, but even for the Japanese people. I think the best tool which conveys these difficult senses
understandably is a “kakejiku.”
The kakejiku (a hanging scroll; a work of calligraphy or a painting which is mounted and hung in an
alcove or on a wall) is a traditional Japanese art. It's no exaggeration to say that paintings are what
express aesthetic senses at all times and places. The kakejiku is an art which expresses the Japanese
aesthetic senses. The kakejiku has long been used in traditional Japanese events, daily life and so on since
ancient times. As a result, there are various customs of kakejiku in Japan; kakejiku and the life of the
Japanese are closely related. We can see Japanese values through kakejiku.
The kakejiku is a cultural tradition which the Japanese people should be proud of. However, many people
in other countries don't know much about it because it hasn't been showcased as much. This is why I
decided to try to introduce it. The kakejiku world is very interesting and beautiful. We want not only the
Japanese, but also many people from other countries to know and enjoy it. I hope that many people will
love kakejiku someday.
