- Description
The Oirase Gorge is a mountain stream of the Oirase River that stretches for about 14km from Nenokuchi on the eastern shore of Lake Towada in Towada City, Aomori Prefecture to Yakeyama. Along the mountain stream, there is a promenade along with a driveway, and it is a popular tourist destination with many tourists especially during the fresh green and autumn colors.
This work was drawn by Japanese-style painter Wakabayashi Haruki with a soft brushstroke during the fresh green of Oirase. It seems that the pleasant early summer breeze can be felt from the work together with the sound of the river flowing. The great part of the painting is the expression of sunlight through the trees at the top of the painting, where the light shining through the trees is beautifully represented by outstanding painting techniques. This is a masterpiece with Haruki Wakabayashi’s techniques.
