- Description
Sakurai Kōdō was born in 1950 in Aichi Prefecture. He had been fond of paintings since he was a child and studied under Miyake Wakō. He was good at both Kachō-ga (bird-and-flower painting) and Sansui-ga (landscape painting) and was active in the art circle.
In this work, the spring kerria is placed in the upper right corner of the painting, and diagonal from it, the summer lily is depicted with the refreshing colors of Sakurai Kōdō in the lower-left corner. The leaves of kerria drawn in sumi ink are decorated with gold by tarashikomi technique (tarashikomi: a high-level technique of Japanese-style painting for attaining natural blur by making use of the difference in the specific gravity of pigments.) to ひghぃght the bright yellow flowers of kerria. On the other hand, the flowers, buds, and leaves of the lily are drawn realistically, and you can feel the dynamics of life enjoying the summer. It is a work that you can enjoy from spring to summer.
