Young Couple from Abu Dhabi Visits Our Shop to Purchase Hanging Scrolls

Recently, our hanging scroll specialty store welcomed some very special guests. A young couple from Abu Dhabi, UAE, who are currently residing in Tokyo, visited our shop.

They came to Japan for work and are living in Tokyo, but during their trip to Kyoto, they decided to purchase hanging scrolls and visited our shop after browsing our website.

They rented a car to come to our store.

Why Did They Want to Buy Hanging Scrolls?

The couple had a strong desire to decorate their new home, which is under construction in Abu Dhabi, with Japanese art.

They were looking for hanging scrolls that could remind them of Japan.

We were very pleased to see their interest and passion for Japanese art.

As Japanese people and as a business dealing with Japanese art, we find it incredibly gratifying that people like them are touched by and appreciate Japanese culture.

The Hanging Scrolls They Chose

The couple chose two hanging scrolls: “Two Deers inside the Capital Nara” by Kondō Nobuto and “Landscape Painting: Snowscape of the Kinkakuji Temple” by Itō Shūki.

These scrolls, depicting the landscapes of Nara and Kyoto, quintessentially represent Japan.

Shipment and Feedback

The hanging scrolls were shipped to their home in Tokyo, and after they successfully received them, we received a heartwarming feedback from the couple. Here is what they said:

Dear Nomura-san,

I hope this email finds you well.

Thank you for your support and providing great assistance. The shipment has been well received. I have to say that your shop and your kind hospitality is very special. Wishing you great success in your business!

Please contact me anytime if you decide to come to the UAE. We would be more than happy to assist you!

We wish you a Happy Holidays!

Receiving such warm words is very encouraging for us. We are grateful for their kindness and will continue to strive to bring joy to many people through Japanese art.

Summary

This episode made us realize that Japanese hanging scrolls are loved across borders. Japanese art, with its delicacy and beauty, has the power to move many people. We will continue to work hard to convey its charm.

If we have the opportunity to visit Abu Dhabi, we look forward to meeting them again.

We hope that everyone who is interested in Japanese art will also take a look at our hanging scrolls.

Thank you very much.

Our Feelings For Kakejiku

The Japanese people have long set a high value on aesthetic senses since ancient times. As a result, the
peculiar culture which is not seen in other countries blossomed and many aspects of the modern Japanese
culture come from it. Parts of Japanese culture has been introduced to people in other countries recently,
so the number of people from other countries who are interested in Japanese culture has been increasing.
However, the Japanese aesthetic senses, which are the bases of Japanese culture, have been nurtured
through a long history, intertwining various elements intricately, such as climate, geographical features,
religion, customs and so on. Therefore, they are very difficult to understand not only for people from other
countries, but even for the Japanese people. I think the best tool which conveys these difficult senses
understandably is a “kakejiku.”
The kakejiku (a hanging scroll; a work of calligraphy or a painting which is mounted and hung in an
alcove or on a wall) is a traditional Japanese art. It's no exaggeration to say that paintings are what
express aesthetic senses at all times and places. The kakejiku is an art which expresses the Japanese
aesthetic senses. The kakejiku has long been used in traditional Japanese events, daily life and so on since
ancient times. As a result, there are various customs of kakejiku in Japan; kakejiku and the life of the
Japanese are closely related. We can see Japanese values through kakejiku.
The kakejiku is a cultural tradition which the Japanese people should be proud of. However, many people
in other countries don't know much about it because it hasn't been showcased as much. This is why I
decided to try to introduce it. The kakejiku world is very interesting and beautiful. We want not only the
Japanese, but also many people from other countries to know and enjoy it. I hope that many people will
love kakejiku someday.
