French Resident in Japan Visited Us! Request of Bespoke Shikishi Artwork!
Our company is located in Tarumi Ward, Kobe City where Shioya, the district which many foreigners have settled since the Meiji era lies.
An episode this time is about a store visit of Mr. Cador originally from France, currently living in Shioya.
In the course of our consultation, he seemed to like to gain two shikishis (large square poetry boards), one with a Japanese-themed painting and the other, the calligraphic work with his desired quote.
As for the Japanese-themed shikishi, the one in the catalogue, which portrays a night view of cherry blossoms caught his fancy enough to be picked straight away. Meanwhile, the other one which will have a theme with his demands and must be bespoke required further consultation.
He told us that there is a Japanese person he deeply pays respect to and when he happened to see the words on a shikishi drawn by the great mind, the item turned into his desirable object.
The person is Dr. Nagai Takashi, a physician specializing in radiology who himself was a survivor of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki at the Pacific War. He nevertheless bustled about in the city for giving medical treatment to a great number of other bomb victims and his most valued proverb was `Nyoko Aijin : Love your neighbors as if they are yourself’.
After the detailed meeting with Mr. Cador, we decided to have the letters `Nyoko Aijin’ drawn by our contracted calligrapher.
The finished shikishi and the shikishi of a night view of cherry blossoms.
Mr. Cador was absolutely delighted with our creations and that was the most important thing for us.
We take bespoke orders of shikishi as well so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any requests.
