Willow Leaf Guanyin is said to appear from the Pure Land in the far west and embrace all suffering people with her warm compassion. It is said that Guanyin has 33 manifestations and Willow Leaf Guanyin is one of these forms. Willow Leaf Guanyin is believed to purge all kinds of incurable diseases and suffering, and bestow boundless happiness with each swing of the willow branch in its hand. This work is a sublime portrayal of the majestic and dignified Guanyin created by a Japanese painter, Kawamura Kanpō with his flowing brushwork and use of colors. The expression on her face, full of kindness, softens the viewer’s heart.
