- Description
A maple branch grows vigorously from the upper right to the lower left of the screen. Bright green leaves are painted along the branches as if swaying in the summer breeze. At the bottom of the screen, a clear stream flows vigorously from left to right, and five sweetfish are lively swimming in that stream. It is great that the depiction of small white splashes makes the stream more vigorous. They were drawn by Miyake Eisai, who specialized in bird-and-flower painting. It is great that the depiction of small white splashes makes the stream more vigorous. The phrase written on the left side of the screen is the summer haiku poetry by Takahama Kyoshi, a haiku poet who was active from the Meiji era to the Shōwa era. The content of the haiku is as follows.
I felt nice after a summer afternoon shower like bathing.
By adding the haiku about the cool climate after a summer evening shower, this work has the atmosphere of summer even more.
