- Description
Mt. Hōrai (Mt. Penglai) was a legendary mountain on which “sennin” (immortal mountain wizards) lived. Behind the story are concepts concerning Taoist immortality, as eternal youth and immortality were prized in ancient China.
This is a painting by Kawamura Kanpō of Mt. Hōrai (Mt. Penglai). Kawamura Kanpō is versed in the Nanga style, and his paintings are eminently pleasant, charming in color, delicate in tone. We can see his talent from this artwork.
