- Description
This work is a painting of a kingfisher drawn on Japanese paper by Miyake Eisai, who was specialized in Kachō-ga (bird-and-flower painting). I wonder if the kingfisher, which perches on a stake standing on the surface of the water and staring at the water, is looking for prey fish … its eyes are sharp. Contrary to that tension, the depiction of the two crabs moving in the bamboo basket is something that makes our hearts feel relieved. It is an interesting work that shows tension and relaxation in one painting.
