- Description
Ivy is rhythmically arranged on a wider picture plane than usual, from the upper left to the lower right of it. This work was drawn by Hiramatsu Jun, who was popular as a colorist, with beautiful leaves that have changed brightly in autumn. The leaves, which are arranged decoratively with a certain sense, reminds you of Rinpa school painter Ogata Kōrin’s Kakitsubata-zu Byōbu (Irises Folding Screen). It can be said that it is a depiction unique to Hiramatsu Jun, who was devoted to studying classics. One small bird placed on the vine is somewhat static compared to the rhythmic vine leaves as if it is staring at the movement of the vine leaves. It is an impressive work that fuses movement and stillness in one painting.
