- Description
Since ancient times, the horse has been an essential animal for trade and transportation, as it can carry goods by pulling wagons and carts, as well as people. Owning a large number of horses was, for this reason, considered a symbol of wealth and power. The horse has also been considered a lucky creature for its powerful life force activating people and giving them energy.
This work features a couple of dynamic horses, succinctly depicted by the flowing brushwork of Nishio Shiho, a Japanese-style painter. Even with a small number of brushstrokes, Nishio Shiho has managed to capture the characteristics of the horses to create a sense of dynamism. By writing the word “躍進 Yakushin” on top of the horses painted, the work becomes even more energetic to give the audience a sense of strength.
