- Description
“Stars are for the sky. Flowers are for the earth. Love is for humans.”
This phrase is a quote from Takayama Chogyū, a Japanese literary critic of the Meiji era. This phrase means: “Just as there are countless stars in the sky and numerous flowers bloom on the ground, people’s hearts are full of love.” After Mushanokōji Saneatsu, a literary master of the later era, started to frequently write this phrase on shikishi paper boards, this quote gained its popularity. Today, it is still a popular term used by many artists.
And such a famous quote, written by a Japanese contemporary calligrapher, Satō Kaiun, popular for his flowing and elegant typeface, became this piece. This is a heartwarming piece filled with the calligrapher’s wish for a human society embraced with love.
