- Description
Colorful red and yellow autumn leaves decoratively fill the picture plane to adorn the temple in the center of the picture. The leaves are of various hues but have a certain shape to be rhythmically arranged in a manner similar to the Kakitsubata-zu byōbu by Ogata Kōrin, a Rinpa artist of the Edo period. While using classical techniques, Nakayama Jin’s skill can be seen in the use of soft color gradation in the background, which is calculated to bring the audience’s focus to the temple in the center of the picture. This can be said to be an experimental work that incorporates traditional techniques with a modern sensibility.
